About
At Tyne Valley Cycling Club, our mission is to become the premier cycling club in the North East, chiefly in the Tyne Valley, Northumberland and Co Durham. Currently our proudest achievement is the Tour of the Reservoir, a road race with a long history and, since 2005, one of British Cycling’s Premier Calendar events.
Development is one of our aims, as is to attract new members of all ages, male and female, young and not so young, and all cycling disciplines. We are currently actively promoting the club and would like to see it expand. If you’re interested in forming a section of your own, under the auspices of the club but with representation on the committee if you like, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch with anyone listed on the contacts page. More details on the Club Development page
We are keen to welcome leisure, fun, competitive or touring riders at any level of ability so don’t be frightened to come along and join in as you’re sure to find others at the same level and with the same aspirations.
Membership
Joining couldn’t be easier. If we know you and you’ve ridden with us before then come to one of our monthly club meetings, details below. For strangers, we’d prefer you to ride with us once or twice so we can gauge your ability before joining but if you’re obviously experienced then that’s not necessary. For youngsters and parents, just come to one of our monthly meetings, tell us what you need and we’ll do our best to meet your need. There’s no joining fee and subs are just £12 pa plus insurance - see below.
Insurance
We do, however, require members to join either the CTC (Cycle Touring Club) or BC (British Cycling) in order to provide third party insurance cover for other members and members of the general public. Members can become either club affiliates of the CTC, in which case the cost is £12 per head, or if they prefer they can become individual members, for which the cost is around £35 pa, with some reduced discretionary prices available. This cover is advisable for all regular cyclists, members or otherwise. See our contacts page for CTC and BC. For youngsters, especially those riding mainly off-road, it may be possible to make other arrangements - talk to us about it.
Meetings
We meet on the first Thursday of every month at 7.30pm in the Greenside community centre, on the B6315 near the Tee junction. Coffee, Tea and biscuits are available. The meetings are very informal and are also social events. Come along and see!
