Calling all ladies! Sian Atkinson, one of our lady members, is organising a ladies’ road ride of around 30 miles along the north of the Tyne, at a pace to suit the riders of the day, with a cafe stop along the way. It’ll be a great way for ladies to get to know each other and could be the start of a series of similar runs.
The details:
Meet at the Wylam main car park by the recycling bins
Sunday November 23, 10am

Come on, give it a go!
On Sunday November 30th we’re organising a 50/50 on/off-road ride along the byways and bridleways north of the Tyne. Start time will be 10am at the Tyne Riverside Country Park car park at Low Prudhoe, at the south end of Ovingham Bridge. The ride will be about 20 miles and will also finish here.
You can expect a bit of mud so mtbs are best, but hybrids would manage. There’ll be a comfort stop along the way. The ride will be led by our resident off-road authority David Roberts.
Contact David on 01661 832 040 or at dgr@springfieldov.wanadoo.co.uk in advance if you can. If you decide at the last minute to go then just turn up. Should be fun!

Marianne Pughe, already a qualified triathlon coach at level 1, is currently undertaking cycling-specific coach education at level 2 with British Cycling (see Coaching page). Marianne has space for more volunteers to attend a series of 4 linked sessions she is running during November and early December. The schedule is as follows:
Monday evenings from 7.15 until 8.15 pm
Nov 10, Nov 17, Nov 24, Dec 1
Aldi Car park Hexham - a safe traffic-free environment
Marianne explains what it’s all about:
“There will be four linked sessions with the aim to teach the basic and intermediate cycling skills for group riding. They will be aimed at (but not exclusively to) women cyclists of all abilities (and I am hoping for a good range), with a long term aim of setting up some group runs as part of Tyne Valley Cycling Club. These sessions would be aimed at cyclists who are competent riders who might wish to brush-up their handling skills, who are interested in group riding with similar paced riders. They would also be suitable for novice riders who would like to gain the skills to ride confidently within a group. The basic requirement is to have a road, mountain or hybrid bike, in good working order, a helmet and warm, suitable clothing. The venue is off road and well-lit so lights are not essential.
I am looking for a group of 10 (15 max).
Although it is not essential to attend all four sessions it would be preferable. If the weather is really bad then sessions will be re-scheduled.”
If you’re interested or know anyone who might be then please contact Marianne at saundersandpughe@btconnect.com or ring 01434 689700 / 01434 633302

Title: Kielder off-road trip
Location: Kielder!
Description: Something for everyone
Start Time: 10:00
Date: 2008-11-02
End Time: 15:00
Latest news 2 Nov 2008: check the Off-Road page for a brief report
TVCC is hosting an off-road trip to Kielder where we’ll organise several rides, probably 3, of differing levels of technical difficulty, distance and pace ranging from easy through intermediate to fairly hard. We’ll post details when they’ve been worked out but there should be something for everyone.
The easier routes will be suitable for MTBs and hybrids with stout tyres, but the harder ride will definitely be for MTBs only and fit riders with some technical ability.
We’ll take our 12 bike trailer for riders who want transport from the Stocksfield area and there may be room in the tow car but it’s filling up. You can still put your bike on the trailer and get there under your own steam.
Meeting place and other detail will follow soon. It’ll be a fun day!
Let us know in advance if you want to go so we can plan. See the Contacts page.
